Sunderland striker Michael Chopra is looking to improve as an individual and as a team as the Blackcat`s go into their second season in the top flight.
With manager Roy Keane strengthening a Sunderland side with proven Premiership quality Chopra faces a tough fight to retain a position at the Stadium of Light.
Chopra told the Sunderland Echo “Coming to Sunderland last year, with my past at Newcastle, I knew it would be tough for me.”
“But the fans and everyone at the club have been great and I think it will be a very different season for us this year.”
“The players the manager has brought in are fantastic, when you look at the quality he has brought in and what they have done for the team, there is a lot to look forward to.”
“They are so comfortable on the ball and that has an impact on the players around them.”
“I’m sure we won’t be fighting relegation this season because the players we have got are capable of handling situations in the Premiership that perhaps we couldn’t last year.”
“If we can stay clear of the relegation battle then that would be a step forward and that’s how you succeed in this league, one step at a time.”

Michael Chopra is defiantly Sunderland`s best finisher and I believe if he had played more games in his natural position (as striker and not on the right wing) he would have finished as Sunderland top scorer last season.

I thought he was a great but when you bought him from Cardiff cause he scored a rake of goals but he didn’t really do it last season. Loks like he won’t get much of a chance this season with Diouf (scumbag) and maybe Saha in the fold
Obviously he doesn’t want to move – he’ d have to take a big pay cut to move back to the Championship to get starts.
