Steed has been a revelation this season and continued his form once he was moved to the left hand side last season by Steve Bruce.

Malbranque, 30, is loved by all the Sunderland fans for his quick skills, deft touch and all round commitment. His performance against both Arsenal and Liverpool were nothing short of sublime, but feels let down we have only managed the one win this season.

Steed told the Newcastle Chronicle: “I have really enjoyed playing in these games. I think we have played well in all of them.

“And I hope that people can see that we have a good young team at Sunderland, a team that is doing very well right now.

“I thought we played really well against Liverpool as a team and we showed good spirit to come back from them scoring so early.”

“We have played some good teams and got some good results, and I think that although you might not see it in the points, it is a very good sign for the future.

“We have shown that we have the players and the game to hold the top teams and now we have to make sure we take that into the Manchester United game this weekend.”

We do deserve about 4-6 points more where suspect refs cost us points surely there has to be a league of justice where we are near the top.

Only lost 1 out of six and against City, Arsenal, Liverpool and then Man Utd that is still a good return.
