Spurs V Sunderland

Sunderland completed their mission to restore some pride and faith with the fans after a 2-0 victory against Stoke on Saturday.

They now face a tricky tie away to Champions league surprise package Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday evening.

Harry Redknapp will be looking for some response from his team after being blown away by Bolton on Saturday 4-2.

Spurs are yet to keep a clean sheet this season and this is one record Sunderland must continue in order to take anything from the game.

Bruce on Gyan: ‘It was always my fear when we let Kenwyne [Jones] go and took the money, and then what happened then with Fraizer, we were very, very light.

‘My big concern was if something happened to Darren – he had not missed a game in 18 months – then had we got adequate firepower?

Spurs could rest Van De Vaart with a slight hamstring injury and with Lennon, Keane and Gallas all doubts they need to make a few changes for this fixture.

Player to watch: Modric

Luka Modric can drift in and out of games, which can sometimes be his biggest problem. However, when he is on form he can be one of the biggest threats in the league.

Sunderland must make sure he does not feed Crouch, Bale or Pav in order to keep a clean sheet.

Sunderland will be without their star striker Bent for several weeks with a hamstring injury and he always performs against his former club.

Mensah will miss out as he played his usual one game before missing three after.

Bramble will slot in but Bruce has said he will freshen things up due to the 3 games in a week his club faces.

Steed will be sad not to have converted his penalty on Saturday but he can head to his former club still in good spirits.

Steed is still one of our most creative players and if he can link with Gyan we have every chance of scoring at Spurs.
