Should We Push The Boat Out?

So we have bought Mignolet, Al-Muhammadi, Riveros (pending visa), Bramble and Angeleri to improve our squad for this tough season.

Sunderland fans always expect a big name, especially after we have avoided the ‘yo-yo’ tag that many player has used as an excuse to avoid joining the Wearside club in the past. The big question on all the fans lips at the moment is can we splash the cash on a big name to push us to the next level?

Quinn and Short have both stated in the past that we have the money to attract the quality we have missed severly in the past but how much can we spend on one or possibly two big targets?

Charles N’Zogbia has said that he wants to move away from Wigan but can Bruce attract a player who is linked to Marseilles and Juventus this Summer? The fact we are linked to this type of player is encouraging and a sign of improvement but will we go the extra yard and sign the player for £8 to £10m?

It looks more likely also that Stephen Ireland will stay at Man City as he will be collecting a very large wage packet even if he is left on the bench, or even un-registered. If we want to push up the league we have to avoid the stigma of spending all of our money on one player and take a risk. These two players could change our style of play, lead to more goals and get us to bring even bigger players in the following seasons.

We took a massive risk on Darren Bent last season and he has became a Sunderland legend in the space of 38 games. He is a natural goalscorer and we have got exactly what we paid for in his attacking threat. Imagine how good he could be with some pace on the wings and drive from midfield to help increase his goal tally in 2010/11.

In Al Muhammadi & Riveros we may already have hit the creativity jackpot..but it’s risky. A proven star would put everyones mind at ease.

I just hope we get the defence sorted out. I think Riveros will make a great defensive midfielder with the possibilty of getting a few goals. Titus looks a good signing (certainly at the beginning of the season with Turner suspended, Da Silva on International duty etc.). Ireland for me is not on the cards but, I would welcome N’Zogbia. Goalkeeping wise – Could we get Joe Hart on loan? That would be brilliant. We now have 3 Right Backs. And with rumours of Mcartney moving to Birmingham only Keiran to play Left back. Hopefully our defensive centre backs will be Brambles & Mensah for the Birmingham game – But, is there any cover for either? Seems like Kenwyne Jones only. With Campbell looking sharp I would expect him to play alongside Benty more this season and both to get goals most likely Bent the provider than Bent the scorer.

Charles N’Zogbia has NEVER said that he wants to move away from the Latics, he has said that he would consider furthering his career at a club with good aims so long as his move would benefit Wigan, with Marseille and Juventus interested I think you are dreaming, oh and by the way Bruce will bleed your club dry of finances, he is well known for chucking money at problems, he left us with some high earning wasteralls

Wigan are just jealous that we have bought a few of their players for the correct price rather than “Dave Whelan World” with his ridiculous valuations. He will bleed our finances dry. He has bought 5 players so far for hardly anything and sold Daryl Murphy for £1.5m!!! Cana for £5m – he has been brilliant in the market and spending wisely. So maybe you need to stop dreaming.

Ha worbo..Steve Bruce has been one of our best managers for years in terms of getting good deals for players lets hope he keeps it up.
