A bolt from the blue this evening as the club has confirmed reports that our Captain Lorik Cana has been sold to Galatassary for £5M.

Cana has explained his reasons tonight and it seems the decision was taken to be closer to his family in Albania, as well as the chance to play Champions League football.

Bruce bought Cana from Marseille for £5M a year ago this month, so no transfer fee was lost on the player.

Cana shone early on in the season, especially in big games at home. Unfortunately the combative midfielder’s form faded towards the end of the season and he was prone to picking up yellow cards and suspensions. Despite all of this, the player will be missed by supporters as he had become a fans favourite.

Will Bruce move quickly to replace Cana or is Cristian Riveros enough?

What do you think about tonights shock news, will Lorik Cana be missed?

I am really upset he has left this early like. He was an important player in big games and also a hero when put at the back at times. Obvuiously his family is important and we wish the lad well in his career as he left on good terms with everyone.

Never expected this, to be honest. He seemed like a vital player for Sunderland, one you could build a team around. Still, you’ve got Lee Cattermole, so he won’t be too badly missed, hopefully.

He will be missed like Dubai but he was also risky with his lunges, 2 footed challenges and awful discipline. Riveros seems a lot tidier and we should break the bank for Ireland and N’Zogbia.
