Niall Quinn has given Ricky Sbragia his full backing.

Only one win in the last nine matches, which leaves Sunderland just four points above the relegation zone, has left Sbragia under pressure but Quinn insists that he’s the right man for the job despite his inexperience as a manager: ‘He has been there as a coach and he has been in dressing rooms before so we have no fears about that,’ Quinn told Sky Sports News. ‘Ricky is doing a fine job to get them to play as well as they did against Man United and Hull in the circumstances. We just need a repeat performance of that.’

‘I genuinely believe in what we have got in terms of talent, if the work rate is good and if we are passionate and making our tackles and with the Sunderland crowd behind us, Ricky and the players will be fine.

‘But they have got to deliver and show the people that they want it.’

Sunderland has the chance to respond to the drubbing at West Brom last Saturday when they face Everton at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.

Quinn, who openly admitted that didn’t like to talk about other managers and their clubs, did pay tribute and acknowledgement to former Sunderland managers Roy Keane, following his appointment at Ipswich, and Mick McCarthy, after he guided Wolves to promotion back to the Premier League.

Like Niall Quinn, do you believe that Ricky Sbragia is still the right man to lead Sunderland?
