Sam Allardyce has confirmed that he will be signing Emmanuel Eboue on a short-term deal very shortly.

The former Arsenal right-back left Turkish giants Galatasaray last month and has been training with the Sunderland squad for a number of weeks.

And Big Sam has been keeping an eye on the 32 year old and has seen enough to be tempted to offer the player a contract.

The Sunderland boss told Sky Sports: ‘Possibly by the end of the week it’ll be clinched until the end of the season.

‘He’s a very experienced professional in all aspects of the game at the top level. If he can bring anything with that experience we’ll use it if and when we feel necessary.

‘I have DeAndre, Billy Jones and Matthews, but when you have somebody with the experience, knowledge and ability of Emmanuel Eboue who wants to come and train with you and prove himself, you can’t turn that down.’

Could be a good signing even though he is older than my Grandad, but surely only until the end of the season, then get rid.
