Former Sunderland manager Roy Keane is in no doubt why Sunderland are in the trouble that they are at the moment

Former Sunderland manager Roy Keane is in no doubt why Sunderland are in the trouble that they are at the moment, he blames interference in the day to day management by the club’s board of directors.

The Sunderland Echo takes quotes from Keane’s meeting with the media in Dublin on Tuesday where he has said that he would still be at the club if Short and co had “left me alone”.

Keane, not one to mince his words, also suggested that the people in question should “have a good look at themselves”.

The former Black Cats boss took over at the Stadium of Light in 2006, but by the time Christmas 2008 came around, he could no longer hold down a working relationship with the board and quit.

The Irishman said that he was not surprised by Dick Advocaat’s departure and when asked why not, he said: “It`s Sunderland, isn`t it? It`s a brilliant club, but I don`t know, I really can`t comment on why different managers have left or have been sacked.

“But people in the background probably need to have a good look at themselves.”

When probed into whether he meant people who were still at the club from his time their he added: “Yes. If they`d left me alone, I`d probably still be there now and I wouldn`t be having to chat to you.”
