Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell believes that Sunderland need four wins from the final eight games to ensure they are playing top flight football next season.

Rodwell was talking to the Daily Mirror about a Sunderland side that at the moment sit in 18th place in the league, two points behind 17th placed Norwich City.

But Sunderland could have been virtually safe had they not conceded goals at crucial times to give them a draw instead of a much needed victory.

Both the games against Southampton and Newcastle have been prime examples of how the Black Cats have let a lead slip and dropped points.

Speaking to the Mirror, Rodwell said: “We probably need four wins out of eight games now. We are capable of doing it. But we have to stop conceding in the last ten or 15 minutes.

“There are plenty of positives but we are in exactly the same position as we were last season. We do need to start collecting more points.”

“We can`t just play well for 70 minutes 85 or 89. We can`t just look at it and keep saying we played well. It`s not enough. We have to play for 95 minutes.”

Sunderland miss out on action this weekend due to the international break, they return on Saturday April 2nd when they take on West Brom at the Stadium of Light.
