MK Dons boss Karl Robinson felt that his side gave a good account of themselves against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday.

The Dons looked set to cause a shock in the second round being two goals up against the Black Cats, but four late goals from the home side shattered the league one outfit’s dreams of getting a home tie against a big club in round three.

But despite his side going out of the competition, Robinson saw some major positives to take from the clash.

He told the Dons official website: “We came here to put a performance on and enjoy it and I felt we did that.

“I think all of our players showed what a unique and attractive style of football we play here. I thought our ball retention was brilliant, but not just that, we played with an energy and consistency and we created chances.’

He went on to add “This industry, though, is ruthless and the top players can produce moments of brilliance which was exactly the case tonight.

“Still, I think this will help us going forward. We`ll learn from it and move on to Bramall Lane where the road will continue.”
