Richardson & Larsson undergo groin ops

Sunderland have today confirmed that midfield pair Kieran Richardson and Sebastian Larsson will miss the rest of the season after going under the knife.

The duo have both undergone surgery following hernia’s and will now miss the remainder of the campaign.

Richardson’s came as a ‘bit of a surprise’ according to Martin O’Neill, who explained that the discomfort had only come on in the last 10 days.

Swedish international Larsson had been in pain for a fortnight though, and has been allowed to undergo the minor operation in order to recover in time for EURO 2012.

Speaking to The Official Site, Larsson said:

‘I am extremely grateful to the club supporting me and giving me this opportunity to have the operation immediately.

‘This means the conditions to be prepared for Euro 2012 are much better than if I had to wait until the end of the season.’
