Sunderland midfielder Kieran Richardson who has just overcome a series of injuries is looking to improve his personal fitness to boost Sunderland`s survival chances.

Richardson told BBC Radio Newcastle: “Playing in this league you need to be fit.”

“I need match fitness to get there. I’m going to be in the gym, working hard and hopefully get my fitness back.”

“The effort is always there with Sunderland, the gaffer always says “Give the effort, it’s what the fans want”.

“No team is too big to go down, but the main thing is for us not to go down.”

“The players we’ve got and the hard work we put in, I’m sure it won’t be us.”

Vital Sunderland Says

It`s a big boost to have Kieran back but when he is match fit he will be a threat to any opposition defence.

It`s going to take time for him to rediscover his fitness and with Edwards close to a comeback we might just win an away game sooner or later.
