Back in February, after Sunderland had been cheated out of a victory at St. James`, the culprit, one Steven Taylor stated that it was a case of “what goes around, comes around”, simply because Newcastle failed to get a penalty in the mid-week game against Manchester City.

So, is that a good reason to dive, that your team did not get a penalty in the previous game? Diving is a part of football that no real fan wants to see in any game, but in a game of that importance it`s a tough pill to swallow for any Sunderland fan.

With the Barcodes relegation yesterday, many Sunderland fans celebrated the fact that their hated rivals dropped out of the Premiership. But then there was also a sense of justice thinking back to that game and that incident on February 1st, the moment that robbed the Black Cats of a victory at Newcastle.

Then Steven Taylor justified the incident by misinterpreting the phrase “what goes around, comes around.” Simply put, it means that a person’s actions, whether good or bad, will often have consequences for that person, i.e. karma. Anyone who has seen “My Name is Earl” knows the meaning of karma. Despite having to wait almost four months to have the consequence of his action to be fulfilled, finally yesterday Steven Taylor paid for his decision to dive for a penalty in a game that means so much to so many. Sure, the “Geordie Nation” cheered at the time, but they paid for that yesterday when relegation was confirmed. There were tears at Villa Park and St. James, while Mackems at the Stadium of Light rejoiced in their survival and their rival`s relegation.

So today, Newcastle United start planning for their first season in English football`s second tier for the first time in seventeen years and many Sunderland fans are nursing hangovers. So Goodbye, Steven Taylor, please enjoy the Championship:
