Today’s Daily Express reports that Niall Quinn and a consortium of mystery Irish backers are set to make a bid to takeover Sunderland AFC.
The story reports that Quinn and his as yet unnamed backers are set to lodge an £80million bid for control of the club in the next two weeks. The Irish consortium is not believed to include wealthy horse racing pair John Magnier and JP McManus.
The Express report continues to say that should a bid prove successful, Quinn intends to install himself as manager.
While the stories of a proposed takeover continue to spread and tentative excitement generates on Sunderland for what could be the best news on Wearside for a long time, a statement from Quinn himself is yet to materialise.
However, now that such news has hit the national press, that can’t be far off.
Needless to say, the whole of Wearside will be hoping that when we do hear Quinny’s dulcet Irish tones, it will be to confirm – rather than deny all knowledge of – these sensational stories!
