Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn has spoke of how club will find it bit more easier to attract the top players Keane wants at the club if they retain a place in the Premier League.

Quinn told the Sunderland Echo “Staying in the Premiership this season is massive – I’ve already said that I think that staying up would be an even bigger achievement that winning promotion in the first place.”

“It’s not just about the finance that comes with Premiership status, it is also about the prestige and the fact that the fans can believe that we are continuing to move forward.”

“Agents and players would also see the progress we have made and they would be keen to become part of it. And we’d find it a bit easier to make the kind of signings we think we require.”

“Some people said that we maybe won promotion too quickly because we had only taken over at the start of the 2006/07 season, immediately after the club had been relegated.”

“Personally, I wouldn’t agree with that.”

“You can’t pick and choose your timing for a promotion and it’s certainly not something you would turn down!”

“Of course, winning promotion in that first season did present some difficulties, but if we can overcome them and get past that first year in the Premiership, then it would make us stronger for next season.”

“As for the players who are already at the club and who come through this first, difficult year, I think it will stand them in good stead.”

“Next year, the likes of Daryl Murphy, Roy O’Donovan, Grant Leadbitter and others will kick on.”

“Dean Whitehead is our captain but he has had a bad year with injuries, so has Carlos Edwards and Kieran Richardson but next year they will be raring to go again.”

“Andy Reid has been phenomenal since he arrived at the club – he is delivering on the promise he has shown for years and that everyone knows he has.”

“So there’s a lot more than just business reasons as to why next year will be better for us.”

Vital Sunderland Says

If we do stop up hopefully Quinn and Keane can make some class signing`s and the Lads will be a force next season.
