At 11.00pm last night the Daily Mirror printed their usual specualtion and lies in the shape of news regarding our Ghanian striker Asamoah Gyan.

They reported that Sunderland had alerted all major clubs of the availability of Gyan via email.

Quinn moved quickly to stop these ridiculous stories and calm the anxiety amongst the Sunderland fans.

Quinn said about the 10 goal forward: ”The suggestion that we have spoken to an agent to sell this player on our behalf is embarrassing to all concerned.

‘I hope our fans would be smart enough to realise that this is probably some other club or outside agent’s way of attempting to destabilise our relationship with one of our players.’

It is vital to our progression that we keep Gyan and use the money from both departures of Bent and Henderson to strengthen.

We will no doubt see more crap written by the tabloids but hopefully this statement will show we mean to keep Gyan and build for next season.

Rubbish! We all know the deal. Pay top dollar for a player. Give him big wages. Get a season out of him. Sell him on for a profit (or at least non-loss). Buy new player. Etc. Repeat endlessly….. Why else is every available player currently linked with a move to Sunderland?
