Sunderland winger Carlos Edwards can handle the pressure of being labelled Sunderland`s saviour.

Edwards came through his first competitive league this year against Chelsea on Saturday after having most of his season wrecked by injury.

Sunderland fans are hoping the Trinidad and Tobago winger can recapture some of the form he showed last season in the Championship to help their team climb the league.

Edwards told the Sunderland echo: “I don’t mind the expectations – bring the pressure on!”

“I’m going to give 100 per cent every second I am out on the pitch.”

“We are in a tough fight at the bottom and we all need to stick together and work hard for each other.”

“You don’t want to be thinking that you have worked so hard for a shot at the Premiership and now you are missing out – that doesn’t help at all.”

“It’s been a start-stop situation for me this season, playing a couple of games right at the start, then being out injured, then coming back for another couple of matches and then being out again.”

“It’s been frustrating for me and it has put a bit of a dampener on the season from my point of view.”

“Things happen for a reason and I have missed most of the season, but hopefully I can come back in and play a big part in the remainder of the campaign.”

Vital Sunderland Says

It great to have him back looking forward to seeing him fully match fit and terrorising the Premiership defences.

Edwards and Reid are going to be key to our survival hopes we have lacked width all season.
