Praise For Returning Man

Wes Brown has been something of a forgotten man for Sunderland. The defender has long since had something of a label of an “injury prone player”, with injuries constantly striking him down during his career.

His latest injury, a knee one, had sidelined him for more than a year with him making his return in the Asia Trophy win over Spurs on Wednesday.

Not only did the former England international return from injury he marked this return with a goal!

The effort and commitment that Brown has put in to return, and the dedication from his staff to help, has drawn special praise. Di Canio told Sky Sports: ‘Wes was a very good player already but he didn’t have a very good season last year.

‘This year he decided to push harder because he is a very good professional.

‘Thanks to him and thanks to my staff he has the chance to come back. He is an important footballer for me and I am very glad to have him back in the squad.

‘He still has to improve because it is only the first friendly game but with his experience he can handle the situation and he can have a big part in my squad, I hope.’

Fingers crossed that Brown can continue his rehabilitation successfully as he could have a big part to play for Sunderland this season.

thought Brown looked impressive against Spurs, whilst as a team you looked so much better than the last game of the season and looked very fit
