Sunderland manager Gus Poyet wants his side to go into the game with QPR on Saturday with a moral boosting win under their belts.

The Black Cats take on Birmingham City tonight in the Capital One cup at St Andrews and with two draws in the Premier League so far this term, Poyet believes that a win in the cup could boost his side ahead of the trip to London.

The game should be a good one with Birmingham finding their form now and Sunderland looking for the win, Poyet is going to have his side up for this one.

Speaking to reporters, Poyet said: ‘We’ve drawn two games so I want to win one, I want to go to QPR with a winning mentality.

‘Every Cup-tie is like an individual final. It brings a good feeling to the team because it’s a small celebration every time you get through.’

Sunderland are hoping for another good run in the cup after ending up being beaten finalists last season to Manchester City.
