Sunderland manager Gus Poyet is not ready to throw in the towel when it comes to the transfer of Fabio Borini to Wearside.

Reports suggest that things dont look too good for Poyet after the Liverpool striker jetted off with the rest of the Liverpool squad for their pre-season tour.

At first things looked like they were going well when reports came through that a £14 million bid had been accepted, but things seem to have taken a bit of a turnaround when it came to discussing personal terms with the player.

But after watching Sunderland beat Carlisle United 1-0 last night, he told reporters that the news was not that bad.

He said: “I can assure you though that there is no disappointment on my part that it has not happened yet. It is normal.

“And with all respect to the media, they do not know everything that is going on.

“It is not for me to explain but it is not just a question of Fabio wanting to come or not.

“There are many, many things to look at and unfortunately I cannot comment on those.

“We are involved in negotiations and you never know how long that can take.

“There`s nothing new to report as things stand but we are still hoping to close the deal completely.”

I dont see why he is still wasting time chasing this one, we need somebody who can score 20 plus goals a season and Borini isn’t that man. And he certainly isn’t worth £14m

I wish he would just pack it in, there is no way on this earth that borini is worth 14m, waste of money imo
