Sunderland manager Gus Poyet is still confident that there will be fresh faces in his side in the very near future.

Not only that but he also believes that some of the potential new adititions could raise an eyebrow or two in the football world.

With deals for Billy Jones, Jordi Gomez, Costel Pantilimon and Patrick van Aanholt already done and dusted, there are still talks going on with a view to getting Fabio Borini back in the side after his successful loan spell last season.

Two others that did well while on loan last term, Santiago Vergini and Marcos Alonso, are also players that Poyet is interested in signing as he tries to build back up his depleted squad.

The Sunderland squad are now back from Portugal and Poyet is relishing getting back behind his desk and pulling off a few deals.

‘There are plenty of things going on and I`m looking forward to things happening in the next few days, so it`s all positive,’ Poyet told the Gazette.

‘I think we have a great chance (of signing players), a great chance. People are going to be surprised, which is great. It`s all positive.

‘We`ve had a few things that before we knew it they didn`t work. But I`m hoping there`s going to be some good news over the next two or three days.’
