There are reports doing the rounds that Sunderland boss Gus Poyet is about to raid his old club Brighton to pick up midfielder Liam Bridcutt.

The Telegraph reports that Poyet is looking to give his side a bit of a sort out during the January transfer window and Bridcutt is his number one target.

Bridcutt was signed for Brighton by Poyet from Chelsea in 2010 and the Sunderland manager still holds him in high regard.

But the newspaper also report that Poyet will have a tough time of it trying to get the player signed due to the way he exited the club for alleged gross misconduct. Not only that, it’s very unlikely that Brighton would want to sell a player that has helped them to the verge of the play offs.

Poyet is ready to offer £2million although Brighton are likely to demand a figure closer to £5million.

Poyet said: “My aim all the time is to do things quickly in January. We`re having meetings practically every day and we`re getting close to January now.

“January 1 is a Wednesday, it`s not on the weekend, so if there are not any problems with bringing them in from abroad, they could be signed that day.”
