Emanuele Giacherini’s ankle injury is causing Sunderland some concern admitted boss Gus Poyet.
Earlier this month the Italian injured his ankle again in the FA Cup tie with Fulham.
The 29 year old has already been out of action with an ankle complaint that kept him sidelined for two months and Poyet fears that the player may be in for another prolonged absence.
Poyet told the Shields Gazette: ‘It doesn’t look good.
‘We are reassessing, but we will get a full update next week. It is the same injury he had before. I don’t want to go further but it’s not good. I hope the specialist opinion in the week is positive.’
