Gus Poyet was left in no doubt that it was the poor start Sunderland made to the game against QPR that lead to their downfall.

“We lost because of the way we played in the first 20 minutes.’ – Gus Poyet.

Rangers came to the Stadium of Light with no manager and nothing but defeats away from home all season, but they managed to take all three points from Sunderland who looked like a side that are struggling to stay up again.

It didn’t take 20 minutes before Rangers were in front, a Leroy Fer glancing header putting the visitors 1-0 up was soon followed by the killer goal that came from Bobby Zamora just before half time.

Poyet said: “We lost because of the way we played in the first 20 minutes. Their second goal came right on the stroke of half-time and we didn`t start well, they scored a good goal and we were unable to recover.

“Today, 20 bad minutes, lots of missed chances plus their goalkeeper being man of the match resulted in defeat.”
