Sunderland and Newcastle fans have been warned by Northumbria Police against any violence on Sunday.

The Police have stated if any trouble breaks out when fans enter or leave the ground they will take ‘firm action’ against the culprits.

Sunderland AFC have placed on free buses to leave the Stadium of Light, however many fan refuses to take these due to the speed they travel and slow process getting into Sports Direct @ St. James Park.

The main problem the police will have is controlling the flock of fans who use the train service instead.

Ch Supt Graham Smith, of Northumbria Police said: ‘The overwhelming majority of football fans are well-behaved and want nothing more than to attend games free from the fear of violence or disorder.

‘People who come to the game on Sunday intent on causing trouble shouldn’t bother because we will take firm action against them.

‘They should stay away and let the real football fans enjoy their day out.’
