Mauricio Pochettino’s view of Saturday’s game against Southampton at St Mary’s.

Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino came away from the 1-1 draw with Sunderland happy that he side had stolen a point at the death.

But at the same time he was disappointed that his side went behind against the Black Cats in the first place.

Clearly he felt that his side had dropped points rather than gained one.

He told reporters: ‘I think it’s clear that we did not deserve to lose today. When we review the match later on we’ll probably feel we deserved all three points.’

But when asked about the questionable marking when Emanuele Giaccherini opened the scoring, he added: ‘I fully take responsibility in that sense. It just shows that we have to improve. It’s not acceptable that we step onto the pitch in that manner.
We were basically asleep.

‘It’s a big lesson for us. It’ll help us to improve.’
