Sam Allardyce has let it be known that he is looking for a defender and an attacker before the transfer window closes on top of the signings he has already made.

Already at the club are Bayern Munich defender Jan Kirchhoff and Trabzonspor striker Dame N’Doye, and according to reports, places abroad are being scoured for new faces.

However, it doesn’t look like there is any mileage in the rumours that the Black Cats are after Stoke City striker Peter Odemwingie.

One thing that will be happening is that Sunderland and Newcastle United will meet for a ‘behind closed doors’ friendly at the Stadium of Light.

Many are surprised about the game but it gives both Big Sam and Steve McClaren a chance to have a good look at fringe players that they have in their ranks as well as giving first team players who don’t get too many games a run out.

  • Both teams are out of the cup so why not have a friendly game. Both managers must be desperately seeking a player to step up to the plate.
