Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford is going to go a long way according to Sam Allardyce who was happy with the youngsters display in his debut at Arsenal yesterday.

Pickford impressed the Sunderland boss even though his side went out of the competition 3-1.

Speaking about the young keeper, Allardyce told the Chroniclelive website: “He is a Sunderland boy, a Sunderland lad, and it looks like he has a bright future ahead of him.

“I think he`s been here since he was eight, and that doesn`t happen very often now.

“His parents have dedicated themselves to bringing him to Sunderland four times a week for training, which is something you don`t see a lot in our country these days unfortunately.

The benefit of that is he went out on loan very quickly as a youngster, he wants to play first-team football, so his development to this level was speeded up very quickly.”

Pickford has been back with the Sunderland squad a little less than a month after Big Sam decided that he would recall him from his highly successful loan spell with Preston North End.

Sam added: “He has played this game, Vito will play at Swansea.

“He [Mannone] has done great since he stepped in for Costel, and he was one of the main reasons why we beat Aston Villa.

“After that, who knows?

“Jordan or Costel might come back. We`ll have to wait and see.”

Sunderland took a 17th minute lead at the Emirates Stadium through Lens to shock the home crowd, but Campbell levelled things.

Things were looking not to bad for Sunderland after that but they had any hopes of getting Arsenal back to Wearside were dashed in the final 20 minutes of the game when Ramsey and Giroud both struck to make the score 3-1.
