Young Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford wants to stay at the Stadium of Light and one day make the spot between the sticks his own place.

Pickford was a hit with the away support at Arsenal and after the game he said that he now wanted to remain at the club after experiencing the proudest moment of his life.

Now Pickford has got the taste for first team football with Sunderland, he hopes that he does not have to go out on loan again for his first team experience.

However, Sam Allardyce has already said that Vito Mannone will return to the side that faces Swansea on Wednesday, but with either Mannone or Pantilimon likely to leave the club in the next couple of weeks, the boss welcomes a challenge for the number one shirt from Pickford.

The 21 year old told the Sunderland Echo: “The manager wanted to see me in a game and how I dealt with the pressure.

“I thought I did that well and I`ve just got to keep training day-in, day-out, and see what happens.

“I`ve got to wait for my chance and maybe be a little bit patient and when I`m called upon, grab it with both hands and hopefully don`t look back.

“The last thing I want to do now is go back out on loan.

“As a fan and a player, I want to be in the side and be number one, but I`ve got to be patient and try to put pressure on.”
