David Moyes must have been glad that he gave young midfielder Januzaj his first start for United against Sunderland on Saturday after he rescued the visitors and earned them three points.
It was beginning to look like the shock result that a few were tipping Sunderland to pull off was going to come about after Craig Gardner gave the home side an early lead after hesitation in the United defence.
But in the second half they came back thanks to two pretty good goals from the youngster.
The Black Cats went ahead when Phil Jones and then Nemanja Vidic both made an arse of their attempts to clear the ball out of their area and Gardner pounced to slam the ball into the corner of the net out of reach of De Gea to give the home fans something to cheers about.
United then went close with two chances, one from Januzaj who fired just past the post and then Nani also whistled a volley just wide.
But it was Sunderland who came closest to adding another goal when Emanuele Giaccherini got in a header that was net bound but De Gea pulled off a world class save to deny the Italian.
United pressed after the break and were rewarded in the 55th minute when Evra crossed the ball low into the path of Januzaj and he smashed the ball past Westwood to level matters.
Then just five minutes later and the visitors were in front when the ball came out to him on the edge of the box and he fired a volley at goal that beat Westwood into the corner and the visitors were then in front.
Robin van Persie showed that even the high and mighty could miss chances when he missed with two minutes left, it was a chance that you would have bet your family on and won 99 times out of a hundred, but not on this occasion. Much to the delight of the home fans.
But at the end of the day, 2-1 was enough and Sunderland were very unlucky not to have got something from the game. We’d have gotten away with it if not for that pesky kid.
