Patience Is A Virtue

Having read the comments made by some of the ‘echo jury’ over the last few weeks and listening to some of the nonsense on radio phone ins I felt it was time to respond. Are these people for real, what world are they actutally living in.

Bruce has been at the club for just over a year which in managerial terms is nothing but looking at the difference in quality of the players we have to the players he inherited the gulf in class is now huge.

For the first time in my lifetime we have a manager that see’s players as the fans do. Straight away he recognised the players not up to the job and shipped the majority of them out the door and in most cases for a good return. To get 1.5million for Daryl Murphy is a perfect example of this.

Some of the jury had us down to concede 4 and 5 on sunday. Since Bruce has been at the club we have lost against Villa, Chelsea and Man Utd at home giving them all a good game in the process. In the same period we have beat Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and Man City, can someone please explain such negativity?

We all know our away form is something that needs addressing but its not just a SAFC problem. Other than the top 8 look at all the other teams away form the last five year, statistics suggest its not as easy to do as some people tend to think.

Fulham havent won more than 3 games in a season away from home over the last five year yet still qualified for Europe. We are a working process and fans need to remain patient and stay behind the manager. This is the best state the club has ever been in with Ellis Short and Niall Quinn at the helm which was again showed with our club record purchase of Gyan.

Listen to comments from Bent, Mensah, Cattermole, Bramble etc all stating how fantastic Bruce is to work under, a real man manager. On Sunday Bramble was outstanding against some of the worlds best yet some still utter comments regarding the mistakes he made for the mags.

He will make mistakes in a red and white shirt as Terry, Ferdinand, Carragher etc make for there clubs but if he can put performances in like he has since he arrived here who cares? I sometimes wonder if the people who criticise actually attend games or do they form their opinions on newspaper articles and radio stations.

To have players of the quality of Gordon, Mensah, Bent, Cattermole, Malbranque and now Gyan etc was a pipe dream only a few year ago but lets not go down the same road as others have and keep insisting for more. With the current economic climate we have again showed our ambition with the recent arrivals, remember the likes of Villa, Everton and many others have hardly spent a penny this summer.

Off the pitch the academy is starting to reap its rewards with the emergence of Henderson, Colback (Ipswich young player of the year) and the recently departed Waghorn who we received a good fee for and numerous others waiting in the wings in the younger age groups.

I have travelled the length and breadth of the country on the march with the red and white army for two decades now and have always said our away support is second to none, it’s about time our home support followed suit and started backing the best thing that has ever happened to SAFC, after all where would we be now if it wasn`t for Niall Quinn, perhaps heading to Accrington Stanley on Saturday….who are they you may ask….

EXACTLY!

Well said, this is the best team i can remember and my first game was 1979! I know we finished 7th 2 yrs in a row under peter reid but honestly i reckon that team would struggle against the one we have now KTF

Great article. We should all know as the majority of us do that Rome wasn’t built in a day and Sunderland may have to settle for just missing out on european qualification. It great that the Brucey boo boys have been silenced and now Bruce has 2 weeks to settle and mould the team into a attacking force to be reckoned with. People can say the result against City was a fluke ********* we defended great took the pressure and were justly awarded a pen. If we cut out the poor away performances and keep up the big team banana skin rep and we may see come 2-3 years this squad can possibly break the top 4.

Im not sure about the top four but certainly stay in the top 10 if we win at least 4 or 5 away
