Costel Pantilimon has joined Watford on a permanent deal which will see him remain at Vicarage Road for the next three years.

At the start of the season Pantilimon was the number one choice at the Stadium of Light, but now cannot even get onto the bench on match days with manager Sam Allardyce favouring Vito Mannone and Jordan Pickford.

This left the door open for Watford to make their move for the keeper they have had their eyes on for some time.

It’s believed that Pantilimon was on a bigger wage at the Stadium of Light than the other keepers and this may well be part of the reason that it was him that was shipped out and of course, Big Sam will have generated some cash to use in the transfer window.

A short statement on the Black Cats’ website read: ‘Sunderland AFC would like to thank Costel and wish him the very best for the future at his new club.’
