Get a Wolves perspective on Sunday’s big game

Vital Wolves ed. Akela gives us a fans-eye perspective on all things Wolverhampton Wanderers ahead of Saturday`s clash…

What were your hopes, fears & expectations for the season?

I hoped we would kick on from last season and move away from the relegation battle and into the group of clubs who are above the battle for the drop but below the hunt for Europe. However I expected that it might be a season too early for that and expected to be flirting with the drop zone, although ultimately I think we will be fine.

My fear is that we take the usual knee jerk reaction, blame the manager and sack McCarthy. Many other Wolves fans would like that, but I’m very much in the Pro Mick camp.

Is survival year-on-year enough for Wolves?

Of course, that’s all that really matters in the Premier League isn’t it? A couple of seasons of perhaps flirting with the top ten like yourselves, but realistically there are the top six or seven and then everyone else.

Mick McCarthy is not under any pressure, is he?

He’s under an element of pressure, just like all managers, but I don’t think he is in fear of losing his job. I believe we are very settled behind the scenes with a long term plan which doesn’t react to a couple of games of poor form on the pitch.

What do you make of the fans who have been quick to get on the back of McCarthy/the team this season?

It’s the same every year and is entirely predictable, in fact a couple of us on our forum even predicted that it would start October/November time back in pre-season, which it dually did.

Just how good is Matt Jarvis – is he really in with a shout for another England call-up or was it a one-off?

Very much worth another call-up, squad player of course but certainly on the fringes.

Who is the key man we should be watching out for Sunday?

Jamie O’Hara

Where will you finish this season?

17th or higher.

Match prediction?

1-1

Cheers Akela, I think you`ve hit the nail on the head with regards to Premier League survival, we will only flirt with the top 10 every now and again, some fans think otherwise for some reason though.

No one to my knowledge is insisting on top 10 in the Wolves camp, we want some sort of visible/tangible progress, which clearly is not taking place. Excuses? We’ve heard them all, and Moxey going on about a top 10 finish to sell more STs really didnt help micks cause. Simple fact, we are at even more risk of relegation this year than the previous 2… and that, dear reader, is not called progress in anyone’s book.
