Martin O’Neill & owner Ellis Short will finally sit down to talk transfer funds next week, according to the Journal.

On taking the job, O’Neill was insistent that the pair had not discussed transfer funds, but two weeks into the January Transfer Window Sunderland are yet to sign a player.

London-based Short has not discussed a transfer budget with the Ulsterman and the fact that halfway through the Window there appears to be no rush to sign players suggests that there will be little activity.

Speaking to The Journal Live, O’Neill confirmed the plans:

“I gather he [Short] will be at the Chelsea game and I will be able to speak with the people who make the decisions soon.

“I hope I will get that chance to be able to see him on a business-like basis next week.

“I would like to think while there is an opportunity to do a few things I will look at it.’

It’s fair to say that both parties seem fairly blase about the prospect of bringing anyone in this month!
