Martin O’Neill believes that the form of star man Stephane Sessegnon is not up to scratch, but says it isn’t a ‘major worry’ either.

The Benin international signed a new three-year contract over the summer as a reward for his excellent form last term which saw him top-score for the Black Cats.

However, after suffering an ankle injury which ruled him out of pre-season, Sessegnon has fallen behind in terms of fitness which has contributed to his sluggish start to the season.

Speaking to The Chronicle, O’Neill admitted that the attacker’s form thus far wasn’t worrying him:

“It is not happening for Stephane, but I have no major worries about that. We know what he is capable of doing,’ admitted O’Neill.

“I do not have any major concerns over him over the course of time, although of course I would like more output from him at this minute.’

O’Neill continued:

“However, it has been frustrating for him – and for everybody.’
