O’Neill plans transfer talks

Martin O’Neill has said today that he could be forced into the transfer market due to the ever-increasing injury list.

The Ulsterman insists he did not discuss transfer targets or even transfer funds before taking the job at the Stadium of Light, but injuries could force him into the market.

Sunderland are currently without three recognized centre-halves in Michael Turner, Wes Brown and Michael Turner whilst Sebastian Larsson and Keiren Westwood are both currently out with a virus.

Speaking to The Sunderland Echo, O’Neill said:

‘I will speak to the owner in the next couple of days and we will have a look at it.

‘But the injuries are a concern to us, especially given the fact that, once February arrives, you have to deal with the squad you have from there on in.’
