Familiar problems crept back in for Sunderland yesterday as the Black Cats failed to break down their opposition as often as they would have liked.

In truth, both sides looked blunt during Sunderland’s goalless draw with Michael Laudrup’s Swansea City but the visitors did at least test Simon Mignolet on a couple of occasions.

Less could be said for Sunderland though as the Lads huffed and puffed without ever seriously concerning the Swans’ backline.

Speaking afterwards to the Official Sunderland Site, Martin O’Neill admitted his disappointment:

“I was disappointed with the performance,” conceded O`Neill

“We`ve got a point on the board and that`s probably all that we deserved; I`m not sure that Swansea deserved anything more either.’

The Ulsterman continued:

“Swansea had the better possession in the first half and I thought we improved early in the second half. We started to apply pressure but just couldn`t sustain it.’

Sunderland remain 11th in the table ahead of a trip to Reading this Saturday.
