George McCartney has completed his expected move to West Ham United after agreeing terms on a two-year deal.

The 31 year-old Northern Irish international was on-loan at the Boleyn Ground last season, winning ‘Player’s Player of the Year’.

McCartney, who started his career at the Stadium of Light, moved to West Ham in 2006 for the first time before returning to Wearside in 2008.

However, having fallen out of favour under former boss Steve Bruce, McCartney returned to the capital once more to link up with Sam Allardyce.

During his time in the north east, McCartney won promotion to the Premier League as Sunderland romped to the Championship title in the 2004/05 season.

A gentlemen’s agreement had been in place should the Irons win promotion, and following talks over personal terms, a deal has been struck.

Over two spells McCartney made a total of 153 league starts as a Black Cat without scoring.

Good luck in the future, George!
