Striker Fraizer Campbell has today (Monday) joined Cardiff City for an undisclosed fee on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
The 25 year-old striker had been expected to join Malky Mackay’s Bluebirds for several days now after Matt Kilgallon mentioned the striker’s impending departure on Instagram.
Although the fee is reported as ‘undisclosed’ it is believed to be around £650,000.
Campbell joined the Black Cats in July 2009 from Manchester United in a £3.5m deal but a string of serious injuries seriously hampered his progress at the Stadium of Light.
In August 2010, the England U21 cap sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and was ruled out for six months.
After seemingly recovering from the ACL injury, Campbell returned to the side in March 2011 but was quickly ruled out again after suffering a recurrence of the same problem, this time ruling him of for 12 months.
Campbell returned to the first team fold a year ago under Martin O’Neill, scoring the equaliser against Middlesbrough in the F.A Cup 4th round at the Stadium of Light.
The former Hull City and Tottenham Hotspur loanee followed that goal up with a stunning strike against Norwich City in February of last year as the Lads ran out 3-0 winners.
Campbell bagged what was to prove his last goal in the red-and-white stripes against his former employers’ Manchester United at Old Trafford in a 3-1 defeat last December.
In total, the Huddersfield-born forward scored 10 league and cup goals for the Black Cats in 36 starts for Club. His contract was due to expire at the end of the season.
