Noz Impressing Bruce

Nyron has been in good form as of late and came away from the dissapointing late draw against Pompey with his head held high. He also played against the defeat to Aston Villa and kept Phil Bardsley out of the starting eleven even though he was fully fit after his suspension.

Bruce has more selection headaches as he looks to get something from his daunting trip to Eastlands this weekend as he decides who to play in defence.

Bruce said: ‘Nyron was our best player against Portsmouth, so he’s thrown down the gauntlet and said ‘you can’t leave me out’.

‘That’s what I get paid for – for making decisions, sometimes horrible ones to leave someone out.

‘He’s knocked on my door, like they all have, and you’d expect him to because if you’ve got anything about you as a player and you’re not in the team, you are going to ask the question.

‘Nuggsy asked me whether it would be better for him to move on, but I didn’t want him to do that – I wanted him to stay and sign a new deal, and he did that.

‘He knows he is part of the squad.

‘He was out of contract in the summer and he could easily have moved on in January or at the end of the season, but he wanted to stay and I wanted him here.’

John Mensah and Bardsley will both be looking to get called up but if Nyron says he wants to stay in the team it will take some persuasion to get him to back down this weekend!
