Portsmouth have had a bid rejected for defender/cult hero Nyron Nosworthy, according to Sky Sports News.

Portsmouth have a bit of money to spend with Sylvain Distin set to move to Everton, and have identified Nuggsy as his replacement.

However, Portsmouth failed to meet Bruce`s valuation of the player and it remains to be seen if they will increase their initial offer.

Bruce could be reluctant to sell at this point as Nyron is Bruce`s only cover for Phil Bardsley and with Danny Collins set to move to Stoke City and Paul McShane on his way to Hull; Bruce is likely to add players before further subtractions. However, with Bruce awaiting the completion of loan moves for Lyon centre back John Mensah and Egyptian right back Ahmed Al Muhammadi, Nosworthy`s future is likely away from the Stadium of Light.

Noz joined the club on a free transfer from Gillingham prior to the 15 point season, with Mick McCarthy beating Wrexham to his signature. After a disastrous debut season, Roy Keane moved reinvented Nyron, moving him into the centre of the defence. Nosworthy was instrumental in the promotion winning team, forming a strong partnership with Jonny Evans. Many fans will be sad to see him leave, as he became somewhat of a cult hero at the SOL, but with Bruce adding quality to the squad and the player wanting first team football, it appears that a move is in Nyron`s best interest.

would have been nice to get this one – I think we’ve been looking for some time. Certainly need reinforcements in that position. What’;s he like?
