Manager Chris Coleman met with the media yesterday and gave an update on Sunderland’s injury issues ahead of the Middlesbrough clash this weekend.

Hosting Tony Pulis’ side at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, Coleman had a positive message when it came to Darron Gibson even if he wasn’t yet ready for a return, but overall it’s the same group as it was for the midweek defeat to Bolton Wanderers as he’s not expecting any fresh faces to return in time for this one.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media ahead of the game, Coleman explained.

‘Adam Matthews trained today so hopefully he doesn`t react badly. It is his hamstring so there is a fatigue element. We have had to push him today to see how he reacts to it. There is still no Marc Wilson but Darron Gibson is still way ahead of schedule.’

With Gibson originally sidelined for around the eight to ten week mark at the beginning of January when he limped off in our New Year’s Day clash with Barnsley having suffered a groin injury, the Republic of Ireland international midfielder is well ahead of schedule and he continues to make good progress.

Middlesbrough is obviously too soon, but he might not be too far away now.

‘He trained today with the physio and did a bit of head tennis at the end to get him twisting and turning. He looks quite good so that is a plus.’

With that piece of good news mentioned, Coleman added.

‘Ovie Ejaria is a big doubt, LuaLua is a no also. He won`t make this weekend but has a good chance of making next weekend.’
