Crowd favourite Nyron Nosworthy is hoping to make the right back position his own after impressing on his return against Sheffield Wednesday.

The former Gillingham full back made his first appearance under new boss Roy Keane after recovering from injury.

And with fellow right back Stephen Wright out until the new year, and deputies Rory Delap and Neill Collins far from impressive in the position, Nosworthy is confident he can claim the full back slot for the rest of the season.

He told the club website,

‘Like everyone in the squad, I want to be in the side every game. Once you get one game under your belt, you get a bit greedy and want more and more. The harder you work, the more things will happen for you, so that’s what I intend to do.

‘The gaffer’s made a few changes while he’s been here and everyone is aware that they aren’t guaranteed a game.

‘You only get what you are prepared to work for, and if your performances dip then you’re out. So far, so good for me. I’m pleased to have played in an important win for us. Now I’ll be waiting for the next teamsheet to come out and hope I’m on it.’

Nosworthy is expected to retain his place for the away game at Preston and should he continue in his rich vein of form he should have no problems retaining his place in the side, at least until the dependable Stephen Wright returns after Christmas.
