Home-grown central midfielder Liam Noble has returned to Sunderland following the completion of his loan spell at Carlisle United.

The 20 year-old spent the first half of the campaign on-loan with Greg Abott’s League One outfit as well as part of last season.

Cramlington-born Noble is yet to make a senior appearance for the Black Cats and the Cumbrians have made it clear they would like to take him to Brunton Park permanently.

Speaking to The News and Star, Abott said:

“Liam is going to have a conversation with Martin O`Neill and I`m going to wait for the outcome of that.

“At the minute he is going back to Sunderland so we will see where it goes.’

At 20 years old it seems unlikely Noble will make the breakthrough in Wearside any time soon, but David Meyler left it late, so who knows?
