Further names have been added to the list of potential new managers as rumours continue in Wearside.

Yesterday it was former striker Niall Quinn who was installed as the new favourite as it emerged that bookies all over the country had received a flood of money on the former Republic of Ireland international. Kevin Ball is in charge for the remaining ten games of the season but Quinn’s odds have been slashed from 50/1 to 8/1 after his strong backing this week.

Earlier in the week, former Blackburn boss Roy Hodgson had been linked with the job. The experienced manager is currently only 2 months into his new job managing Finland’s national side, but it has been said that Sunderland chairman Bob Murray could be tempted to bring him back to England.

Other names to have been mentioned this week are former Villa and Derby boss John Gregory, who is without a club, ex-England boss Terry Venables and also former Blackburn manager Brian Kidd.

It would seem that until Murray ends all specualtion by revealing the new manager, rumours will be rife on Wearside.
