Sunderland have completed the signing of Didier Ndong, for less than the predicted £17 million, but still a record fee for the club at £13.6 million.

The 22-year-old has cost Sunderland more than the £13 million paid for Asamoah Gyan.

Sunderland will be hoping to see good things from the new signing who made 46 appearances for Lorient in French Ligue 1 last season,

After completing the move, Ndong said to reporters: ‘I am very proud and happy to sign for Sunderland. This is a new adventure for me and to play in the Premier League is a dream come true.

‘Maybe the Sunderland fans don’t know me yet, but I promise that they will quickly discover that I will give everything for them and the club. It will be an honour to wear the Sunderland shirt and I will wear it with a true understanding of what it means.

‘I am excited to meet everyone at the club, to see the stadium and of course the fans, who I have heard so many good things about. Today is the most beautiful day of my life.’

Good price, pity there was no striker or goalkeeper to go with him

Good signing, some of the Lorient fans say that he was their best player. Might not have cost the fortunes that other bigger clubs have been paying for players, but its a lot for Sunderland, lets hope that he can start earning his wages straight away and rub off on some of the other players
