Two players not on show during Sunderland’s win over Darlington 1883 was Adam Johnson and Liam Bridcutt.

Both players missed the game, but when manager Gus Poyet was questioned about their fitness after the game by reporters, the news was not too bad.

Poyet said that both players were rested merely as a precaution and there was no serious concerns.

Indeed, both players stand a good chance of playing in the Black Cats next games which are to morrow night against Carlisle and Wednesday night against Hartlepool.

Poyet explained: “Liam Bridcutt and Adam Johnson were absent from the team with a couple of knocks.

“They were nothing serious, but it wasn`t worth taking a risk with them in the Darlington friendly.

“But it`s nothing major, we just decided to give an opportunity for a couple of the youngsters rather than taking risks with them.”
