Martin O’Neill looks set to add further attacking firepower to his squad this week in the form of former Everton and Birmingham City striker, James McFadden.

The Scotland international’s arrival will however be offset against the departure of several of the club’s fringe players on emergency loan deals.

Forwards Ryan Noble, Ji Dong-Won and Connor Wickham are amongst those who appear likely to move away from the Stadium of Light on a temporary basis.

Speaking to The Northern Echo O’Neill confirmed that he was looking to move some of his younger forwards out on-loan:

‘I’m all for loaning players out. We don’t have a massive squad but I could stagger those loans so you don’t have a big group out at the same time.’ Confirmed O’Neill.

‘In the case of Ryan Noble, it’s something I’d consider. He looks like he needs a proper chance to go and play. We’ve taken on a couple of centre forwards and it could be a chance. We will see.’

Hartlepool United are known to be keen suitors of the homegrown youngster whilst Wolverhampton Wanderers are believed to be interested in the services of Wickham.

Young defenders john Egan and Blair Adams are also available for short-term loan moves.
