Martin Atkinson takes charge of his third Sunderland game of the season tonight when he officiates the visit of QPR to the Stadium of Light.

Martin Atkinson

28 games

109 yellow cards

3 red cards

Atkinson was first with us when we met Manchester United in August and drew 1-1 at the Stadium of Light. Ashley Young and Tom Cleverly were the only two players shown yellow cards that afternoon.

Then on the 28th of December last year Atkinson was in charge of the game with Arsenal at the Emirates which ended 0-0.

There was some drama in the game though as Fabian Delph was shown the red card early in the second half and yellow cards went to Ron Vlaar, Wes Brown and Adam Johnson.

This season Atkinson has taken charge of 28 games and in that time he has issued 109 yellow cards and three red.

Atkinson’s assistants tonight will be Simon Long and Matthew Wilkes while fourth official will be Graham Salisbury.
