Sunderland`s second string narrowly beat Liverpool reserves with a strike from Roy O`Donovan.

Sunderland fielded a strong side with the likes of Richardson, Connolly, Harte, Stokes, Murphy and Halford all featuring.

Sunderland also had triallist Kiki Musampa in the starting line up. Musampa a former Manchester city is trying to earn a contract at the Stadium of Light.

He had some involvement in the winning goal his though ball found Stokes who managed to put the ball into O`Donovan`s path. The young striker managed to round the keeper before coolly finishing.

Sunderland nearly managed a second but both Connolly and Stokes missed good chances.

Liverpool looked the stronger side and maybe deserved something out of the game.

It`s nice to see some of the injured players coming back. I would however like to see Cole and Edwards running out for the reserves sooner rather than later. I think the experience and class they can bring to the team will be needed especially when you consider our next few fixtures.
